Nigeria Correctional Service removes Ibara prison officials after de@th row inmate goes live on TikTok Platform

 The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has removed the Officer-in-Charge of the Ibara Medium Custodial Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, alongside two other principal officers, following the unauthorised use of a mobile phone by an inmate on de@th row who appeared in a viral TikTok live stream.

The inmate, Elijah Oyebode, was sentenced to death by hanging in 2019 after an Osun State High E Court convicted him of m#rdering Rofiat Adebisi, a final-year student of Osun State University. According to court records, Oyebode gave conflicting accounts of the crime before denying involvement during trial. The court found him guilty based on medical and other evidence. Despite being on de@th row, One account reportedly reached Level 20 gifting status, allowing him to receive monetary gifts during livestreams.

Investigators also linked him to another account allegedly created to impersonate TikTok creator and activist.

Embattled FIFA president Gianni Infantino has rejected calls to resign for now and apologised for the "mistakes" surrounding his controversial World Cup sell-off plan.

Infantino was forced to abandon his plans – namely to sell stakes in the World Cup and other Fifa tournaments to private investors – after public uproar last week, with Uefa confirming a boycott of Fifa events if the plan was voted through.

 

In a statement released after seven hours of crisis talks in Morocco, FIFA said its management board had reaffirmed its "full support" for Infantino - including secretary general Mattias Grafstrom, only days after he had labelled the World Cup plans "a sad and reproachable series of events".

 

“We acknowledge mistakes were made in the process of the proposed establishment of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE),” read part of the letter.

“It was certainly not the intention for the FIFA Council and FIFA Member Associations to feel excluded from the process, and it should have been handled differently. We acknowledge that errors were also made after the proposal was leaked to media.

 

India calls out Mark Zuckerberg over removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video

 An Indian parliamentary panel has called on Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg to apologise for the temporary removal of July 23 video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi’s video, addressing students during youth-led protests on July 23, was briefly removed from Meta-owned Facebook and Instagram, but was later restored.

The panel, led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, said the deletion of PM Modi's video - who is the representative of 1.4 billion Indians - is an "attack on democracy".

"If Facebook does not take action against those responsible in this matter, the Safe Harbour Clause will be removed. Mark Zuckerberg will have to apologize. Otherwise, a case may be filed," it said.

The removal of the safe harbour clause gives the green light to file FIRs directly against social media platform officials. The central government will provide the green light, the committee warned.
