Two Frankfurt Airport workers have died from malaria following a rare outbreak that has infected six employees at Germany’s busiest airport.

The outbreak was first detected in July, with German public health officials believing the mosquitoes responsible may have arrived at the airport aboard a plane. A spokesperson for airport operator Fraport confirmed that an employee had died from the infection, while Frankfurt public health officials later announced that two of the affected workers had died.

The six infected workers are all men who worked in different roles and areas of the airport. Authorities are examining blood samples to determine whether the infections came from a single mosquito or from multiple mosquitoes.

Mosquito traps have been installed across the airport, with captured insects being sent to laboratories to establish their species and origin. “We have provided comprehensive information to all employees and encourage them to consult a doctor if they experience any symptoms,” a Fraport spokesperson said.

Edo Assembly formally impeaches suspended ex-speaker, Agbebaku

 

The crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly took another dimension on Monday, August 24,, as lawmakers formally impeached the erstwhile Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku.

Agbebaku, who represents Owan West Constituency, had, on Monday, August 17, 2026, resigned his position as the Speaker of the House.

Yekini Idaiye, the lawmaker representing Akoko-Edo 1, was then elected in his place as the new Speaker. Following Agbebaku’s resignation as Speaker, the House suspended him indefinitely. The House also removed two other principal officers from their positions.

Jonathan Ibhamawu was sacked as the Majority Leader, while Addeh Emankhu Isibor was removed as Deputy Majority Leader. Ibhamawu, representing Esan West Constituency, was replaced by Ojiezele Osezua Sunday, who represents Esan South-East Constituency, while Addeh Isibor, representing Esan North-East 1, was replaced by Inegbeboh Ojie Eugene, from Igueben constituency.

On Monday, August 24, 2026, seven days after the initial controversy, the House converted Agbebaku’s resignation to impeachment.

 The founder of the Community of Nigerians in the UK, Benjamin Kuti aka Oluomo of Derbu, has confirmed that popular Nigerian dancer, Iweh Odinaka aka Poco Lee, is currently being held on remand in the United Kingdom over an alleged ass@ult offence.

In a statement released on X today August 24, Kuti said Poco Lee is expected to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court in London in for a plea hearing.

He also said he intends to attend the proceedings and offer support to the Nigerian entertainer.

A 27-year-old woman travelling with him was shot multiple times and taken to hospital, according to Gayton McKenzie, South Africa's sports, arts and culture minister, who confirmed the boxer's death on Friday.
