Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, the Secretary to the Ondo State Government and eldest child of late Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has revealed that his father had a covenant with God to depart the world upon reaching the age of 100.
Speaking during a condolence visit by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the family residence in Ijapo, Akure, on Tuesday night, Dr. Fasoranti stated that the family is celebrating rather than mourning the late nationalist's legacy.
"Baba often told us that he had a covenant with God that whenever he got to 100, he would go. He repeatedly told us that when he died, we should not cry," Fasoranti said.
"We are not mourning Baba; we are rejoicing. Baba has left us a big pair of shoes to step into, but we can only thank God for the legacy of firmness, resilience, hard work, and love that he left us with."
He described the late elder statesman who died at the age of 100, as a devoted parent and a quiet, effective communicator who left behind invaluable counsel.
Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the late leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group as an epitome of humility, wisdom, and selfless service whose contributions to governance and education remain indelible.
"Even at that age, Baba was still influencing decisions of government. That is to tell you that he was still mentally sound," Aiyedatiwa remarked, adding that the state government and the nation at large would honor his memory.
