The daughter of one of Iran's hardline hijab enforcers got married in a revealing dress and with her hair on display, sparking outrage in Tehran.
Rear Adm. Ali Shamkhani oversaw a brutal crackdown on women who refused to wear hijab. But, at his daughter’s wedding, the rules of Islamic morality did not apply.
Video showing the daughter of Ali Shamkhani, an aide to Iran's Supreme Leader, wearing a plunging strapless wedding gown that shows her cleavage and a veil that put her hair on display, has ignited fury.
The Western-style lavish ceremony triggered accusations of hypocrisy in a nation known for strict hijab laws for women.
The video, which has gone viral, shows Ali Shamkhani – the 70-year-old senior adviser to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and also former secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council – walking his daughter Fatemeh Setayesh down the aisle at a wedding hall.
The wedding took place at Tehran's luxury Espinas Palace Hotel last year but the video just started making the rounds online after it was leaked on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
The video also shows the admiral’s wife wearing a similarly revealing blue lace evening gown with bare back and sides. Other women in the video are not wearing the hijab.
The video has now led citizens to call out their leaders for having separate rules for the masses while the leaders live as they like.
